The recent updating of the United States Golf Association (USGA) specification "Recommendations for a Method of Putting Green Construction" has approved the use of Megaflo® (flat panel drainage pipe) as an acceptable alternative to the use of round corrugated pipe.
Changes introduced in the 2004 USGA include the use of corrugated polyethylene "flat-pipe" as an acceptable alternative to the use of standard, round corrugated round pipe for putting green drainage systems. Specifically, the flat pipe must conform to ASTM D 7001, and be a minimum of 300mm in width. Cuspated drains are not recommended.
The trenchless option of Megaflo® straight onto the subgrade results in a huge saving in man-hours and material. No matter what the subgrade soil type, (sand to clay base) all golf courses can benefit from improved drainage using Megaflo®.
Significant saving can be realised using Megaflo®, as a typical green can have drainage completely installed in under two hours with an average installed cost less than half of that of traditional round pipe. Installing Megaflo® means:
- No trenches
- No excavated material to dispose of
- Less equipment required on site
- Fittings to suit all applications
- The concept has proven itself during the last 10 years in over 100 courses around the World.
