  Bunker problems?

Bunkers are a challenge for both the golfer and the golf course architect.  Keeping bunkers playable is an ongoing issue with green keepers. Golf course architects want to create bunkers with more dramatic shape and structure that are both aesthetically pleasing and that challenge the player. This has aggravated the ever present problems of bunker drainage and washouts which cause sand erosion on steep bunker faces and silt contamination resulting in high cost maintenance.

BunkerMat™ - The easy solution to your bunker problems

BunkerMat™ - The easy solution to your bunker problems

BunkerMat™ is a three dimensional sand retention and drainage matting. The bunker sand is trapped within the open structure of the fibres which increases the incline that sand can be held.

BunkerMat™ is also a filtration barrier which limits the migration of fines from the subsoils rising to the base of the bunker and contaminating the sand, making them unplayable.  As a result, there is less need for maintenance and reduces the need for replacement sand.

Whether for the construction of a new bunker or reconstruction of an existing bunker, BunkerMat™ is the product to improve your bunkers. BunkerMat™ has a broad range of features and benefits:

  • Durable, UV stabilised, resistant to rot, mildew and degradation
  • Minimises sand contamination
  • Minimises bunker face erosion
  • Reduces sand thickness requirements on bunker faces
  • Natural sand colour harmonises with most sands
  • Unaffected by chemicals and water conditions found in golf course environments
  • Open fibre structure allows internal water movement while sand particles are retained
  • Convenient roll sizes (2m or 4m wide x 25 metre long) which are packaged in plastic, are easily transported, handled and stored
  • A true value-added system - the reduced maintenance expense quickly recovers the material and installation cost.

Bunkermat™ comes in several colours to suit your sand colour. BunkerMat™ has been ustilised in some of the heaviest rainfall conditions, such as Malaysia and New Zealand with great results.

  Installation Guidelines

Installation Guidelines
  • Prior to installing BunkerMat™ ensure adequate drainage is installed. Consult your architect or drainage contractor to ensure the drainage is sufficent.
  • Shape and smooth bunker floor and walls. Removing any debris that may be making the surface rough.
  • Install BunkerMat™ making sure that seams and joins are kept at a minimum. This may mean laying the matacross the length, diagonally or across the width.
  • If the BunkerMat™ is to be layed underneath the bunker edge sod, care should be taken in removing or folding back the sod. Thus making reinstation easier. BunkerMat™ should still be pinned under the area that is to be sodded. If the BunkerMat™ is to be pinned at the top edge, ensure pin spacing is no more than 200mm (8") apart. Ensure voids are pinned out, so as not to allow sand to pass behind the mat.
  • Pinning of the mat should be concentrated along the joins, then spaced through the mat at 3 per square metre.
  • Sand should be spread over the mat. Spraying water over sand will help impregnate sand into mat profile. This may need to be repeated 3 - 4 times before full sand impregnation occurs.

BunkerMat™ now has the CE Mark of Control, Certificate No. 0799-CPD-113.
